Primary Purpose of the Position The Mathematics Teacher provides rigorous and engaging instruction in mathematics, both within and outside the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. The teacher develops students’ conceptual understanding, problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking skills while preparing them for success in American and the IB Diploma Programme (DP) Mathematics courses and assessments. The IB Mathematics Teacher collaborates with colleagues, students, and parents to ensure access to the curriculum, foster independence, and promote lifelong learning in alignment with Graded’s mission and values. Main Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Student Learning Plan and deliver high-quality mathematics instruction aligned with the American and IB DP curriculum, ensuring lessons are purposeful, differentiated, and intellectually challenging. Prepare students for internal and external assessments, guiding them in developing strong mathematical reasoning and communication skills. Facilitate inquiry-based learning and encourage students to connect mathematics to real-world contexts. Support students in the Extended Essay and other interdisciplinary IB projects as appropriate. Empower students to take ownership of their learning through reflection and goal-setting. Assessment and Feedback Design and administer a variety of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments aligned with both the American and IB standards. Provide timely and constructive feedback that fosters intellectual curiosity and inquiry. Guide students in developing effective strategies for exam preparation and long-term mastery of mathematical concepts. Collaboration and Curriculum Development Collaborate with mathematics colleagues to ensure alignment across IB and high school math courses. Participate in curriculum review, development, and articulation across grade levels. Share best practices in teaching and learning to strengthen the mathematics program. Contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives and projects within the High School. Professional Practice and Community Engagement Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding progress and expectations. Participate actively in professional development, departmental meetings, and whole-school initiatives. Demonstrate professionalism in attendance, punctuality, communication, and conduct. Contribute to the school community through extracurricular activities, clubs, or academic enrichment opportunities. Certifications and Education Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field. Valid teaching certification/license. Desired Master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related discipline. IB training and certification in DP Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA) and/or Applications and Interpretation (AI).
